Jammu is the biggest district and is the winter capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is an administered by a Municipal Corporation and is situated on the banks of Tawiriver. Like the rest of North-Western India, Jammu too features a humid subtropical weather, with January being the coldest month here.
Tourism here is the largest industry and is the focal point for the pilgrims visiting to Vaishno Devi. Few significant places to visit here are Doda, Kashmir, Poonch and Laddakh that indeed starts from Jammu. In addition Bahu Fort, PuraniMandi, Amar Mahal and Raghunath Temple are some other alluring destinations.
Besides there are many educational institutes and Universities here, few to mention are New Modern College of IT and Management, JD Institute of Fashion Technology and Govt. MAM PG College.
Jammu has railway station called Jammu Tawithat connects to all major cities of India. Some of the trains have been extended to Udhampur and few will be extended to Katra. Passengers in near future can board train from here.
Jammu local shopping market is worth exploring. Shopaholics will surely enjoy the mix of local and branded stores that will beautifully meet their all-purpose attires. Few branded stores found here are Lee, Lacoste, Flying Machine, Wrangler and others.
